Substrate inspection and repair
Before smoothing a wall, understand what its substrate needs.
An unwanted texture and a damaged wall are not the same job.

Substrate inspection and repair
What to check first
Photos help distinguish appearance from defects, but some causes need an on-site assessment before a preparation system can be chosen.
Describe how the damage appeared
Send an overview and a close-up. Explain when stains or cracks appeared and whether they changed. Do not remove unstable material or open installations to take a photo.
Check adhesion before covering
Loose layers and previous repairs affect the method. Applying filler over a failing coating can hide the problem without correcting its cause.
Match the repair to the finish
After the cause is addressed, define sound substrate preparation, local repair or wider levelling, and the area to paint. Moisture-resistant boards do not stop a leak.
Questions before work begins
Can a flaking wall be smoothed?
It can be assessed after checking why the coating is coming away and which layers are sound. Preparation comes before decoration.
Can a small repair be quoted?
Send photos, approximate measurements and the location. We will clarify whether a visit is needed to establish the scope.
