Settle the seven decisions together

Discuss the layout, shower type, drainage, waterproofing, ventilation, storage and surface finishes as a connected system. Moving a toilet or creating a flush shower depends on existing levels and routes, not appearance alone. Check daily use and cleaning needs as well as the showroom design.

  • Keep or move fixtures
  • Bath, tray or tiled shower
  • Drain location and available fall
  • Waterproofing details
  • Ventilation and lighting
  • Vanity and storage
  • Tile format and joints

Check the shower as a complete assembly

The base, outlet, screen and wall junctions must work together. Tiles and grout alone should not be treated as the waterproofing system. Ask how corners, penetrations and thresholds will be detailed and checked before they become hidden. Allow access to components requiring future maintenance.

Compare preparation as well as the visible finish

A useful quote separates removal, plumbing, substrate repairs, waterproofing, installation and final seals. Photograph all walls, floor, ceiling and any damp. Tell the team whether this is the only bathroom and whether the property will remain occupied: temporary loss of facilities affects the work sequence.
